Rumor Mill: Penn's GET-UP Gets Even

Word on the picket line today was that a group of Penn graduate employees from GET-UP hauled ass down to Baltimore recently, where our very own President Sexton was scheduled to speak. They allegedly protested the talk, even leafletting the chairs of individual audience members, and created such a nuisance that Sexton had to bow out early without taking questions from the crowd.

Can anyone deny or confirm this very exciting but wholly unsubstantiated rumor? If it's true, than our brothers and sisters at GET-UP deserve a huge round of applause for their amazing show of solidarity!

An email I received via the CGEU list:

Baltimore:  GSOC supporters passed out 700 anti-Sexton leaflets in the
ballroom of the Waterfront Marriot, where the NYU president spoke this
morning at the Middle States Commission on Higher Education conference.
Several hundred higher ed. administrators could be seen reading this
challenge to Sexton's anti-unioin policies before and during his speech.
Most of the several hundred audience members took the leaflets with them.

Four grad employees from UPenn and one from Rutgers joined Rev. Michael
Szpak, Religion and Labor Coordinator of AFL-CIO and Stewart Acuff, Director
of Organizing for AFL-CIO in this act of protest.  Rev. Szpak also managed
to directly hand a letter of protest to Sexton before his speech.

Sexton refused to take questions from the audience after his speech, even
though the facilitator asked him to.  The UPenn and Rutgers grad employees
cornered Sexton near the dias, though, and questioned him repeatedly on his
anti-union policies.

He cannot hide, we are everywhere.
